old pipes.?

not sure how long copper pipes last.? I just re did my whole basement and now I am worried I might have a pipe let go. They are pretty old looking lots of green corrosion built up at some of the joints. I had to replace a small amount of pipe for a new washer and the pipe was pretty brittle and thin. How long do pipes last.? My house was built in 1956. Should I preemptively replace large sections of them.

Thanks

The answer is: it depends. Copper lasts a long time, but it depends on the thickness and the acidity of the water. If you have acid water it can eat through copper in only a few years unless an acid neutralizer is used.

I would take a look at the pipe you replace and see how thin they are. Call in a plumber for a consultation an evaluate the condition.
