kitchen sink drain height

Is there a standard height above floor used for kitchen sink drains?

Am remodelling an old kitchen, existing drain is 20" from floor to center of pipe. Would like to install a garbage disposal under new sink, so existing drain seems way too high. Is there a standard used in new construction? Or does it depend too much on the particular sink/disposal? If so, any kind of "rule of thumb" measure? Thanks,

I always found 16" to be a good ballpark number. If you put in a deep sink, 8" (this is the variable) then 20" will be a problem.

You will be close to having water stand in the disposal all the time. This will shorten the life of the disposal and cause it to vibrate more when running.
