washing machine drain overflow suddenly

Sorry if this is a repost but I couldn't anything matching my situation.

We have a fairly new (< 2 years old) Whirlpool washing machine and about a month ago the drain started to overflow onto the floor every time we wash a load bigger than the small setting. During the drain cycle I can actually see the water rise above the rim and pour down the wall onto the floor.

I don't think it's a clog or blocked vent since the water level drops instantly if I stop the washing machine. I would think a clog would continue to drain slowly.

Any troubleshooting ideas would be extremely helpful!

Thanks in advance.

James

You will need to access that drain line with a sewer cable and clear the obstruction.

Sounds like a partial clog caused by lint buildup.

Use a lint catch on the discharge hose off of the washing machine from this point forward.
