Diverter Busted... Possible more to it?

My mom's house in GA had the diverter (i believe that is what it is called, where the well and city water meet before coming into the house) blow out today and water was running everywhere. They shut all the water off to stop any further damage, but my concern is that something worse might have happened. They had a nasty storm and lightning appears to have struck the house as an oven blew out. Is it possible that the well pump got struck and malfunctioned, increasing pressure that lead to the diverter being blown apart? Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your help!

I suppose that's a possibility, but it doesn't sound likely. From the sound of it, all you can really do is wait until the problem is fixed and then double check everything else once you've got water again.
