Gas Line For BBQ Grill

I would like to run my gas line outside for my BBQ. The distance for the main gas line is about 5 feet to the outside, plus an additional few feet until it can meet the grill. My question is like this, how difficult is it to run and attach the line?
The pipes in my house are black metal gas pipes. It seems rather easy to run the line, I have been reading other forums discuss the gas lines and factoring in allot of information. Any help would be appreciative since I would be able to save a few hundred bucks by doing it myself.

You will need to pull a permit for this work. Many cities and counties will not permit a homeowner to work on gas pipes, so your first order of business is to check with the local building department.

You should also do a gas pipe sizing calculation to insure that the existing pipe can handle the increased demand. This site has charts for many types of installation:
