Clunking hot water pipes

Whenever the washing machine solenoid kicks on or off, not sure which, the pipes clunk or knock, which I guess is common due to the sudden shutoff caused by the solenoid.

So, while at HD one day I found these copper tubes that are supposed to stop this from happening. I guess they act as a kind of buffer, or shock asorber, but I'm not quite sure about their installation. They are about 8 inches long, 1/2" copper tube with one end closed off.

I believe I am supposed to sweat them into a tee, but should they be positioned horizontal or vertical, or does it matter, and is there a specific location to install them?

Thanks

Sounds like high water pressure, view this link and buy a pressure gauge and let us know what your pressure is.

Hammer arrestors are fixing the symptoms, not the problem.

Where's the BEEF, I mean link?

I have a pressure gauge, I just have to find it. I will test the pressure and report back.
