Noise from the pipes

Can anyone tell me if it's normal for the pipes to make noise when hot water runs through it? I can't even describe the noise, it just reminds me of an expansion noise - very soft, last for a second on and off. I'm only concerned because during the snowstorm last year the pipes in our upstairs bathroom sink and toilet froze and I'm so scared there is something wrong with the piping. I still have't figured out why they froze other then it being a blizzard and the temps being extremely low and the wind very high blowing at the back of my house where the bathroom is. It seems like a fluke thing but I'm not sure if there isn't a problem. Thanks

When the lines froze, they could have also moved in such a manner that they now rub a stud when used. The hot water will expand the pipes a small amount and this will make the noise. Good luck.
