Washing Machine Standpipe

Is there a minimum required length for a 2" standpipe?

Does the standpipe need to be vertical or can it be angled, say at 45 degrees?

Does the P trap need to be at the bottom of the standpipe or can it be located further down the line, just before it enters the main drain line?

If the drain needs to go around a corner, should I add a drop immediately after the corner to help the flow??

Thanks!

1) Make it as long as possible, 36" would be a reasonable target length. Washers pump pretty quick; you should have a little breathing room in case the drain gets slow.

2) It should be vertical.

3) Yes, at the bottom. Try to keep it within 6" of the floor. It should be vented as well.

4) The drain should be uniformly pitched at 1/4" per foot or better. Going around a corner may require a cleanout.

If any of the above are problematic, you might be able to plumb a utility sink and drain the washer into it.
