Cold/Hot water lines

I am replacing old metal pipes in my home with all copper lines. When running the hot and cold lines parallel to each other, how far apart should the lines be? I have a 4 inch wide gap that runs down the center of my house (along the I-beam in the basement. I want to route the main water line in that gap and branch off to the various appliances. I just need to know if a 2 inch distance between the different water lines is enough.
