Question strange water taste

Last night, my wife noticed that our tap water tasted earthy/musty, and it definitely has. This morning, it's the same. Seems like this happed right after I shut of the water supply to our spinker system due to the temp dropping in Nebraska. The shut off is located near where our main water supply enters the house - ball valve. Could this have something to do with the change?

In addition, over the weekend, I ran some new water lines to a future basement bathroom. Would this have something to do with the strange change in water taste?

Your sprinkler system "should" have a backflow preventer to stop any contamination of your potable waterlines. I would guess that the new piping is the culprit. You didn't say what type pipe you installed but flux from copper installs and also glue from plastic pipe can taint the water until it is purged out. You may want to turn on an outside faucet for a while and see if that helps. Good luck.
