adjusting trip lever drain

I have purchased a Watts brass trip lever tub drain for 18" to 24" tubs to accomodate a new Kohler 20" deep tub. In order to get the tub drain to fit, I had to cut some of the brass piping, but now the drain stop is too long for the trip lever. I have adjusted the screw to it's maximum and still don't have enough room to be able to have the drain stop open. Do you have any advice on getting this to fit? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Trip lever

I hope that you didn't throw the paper work out. It usually tells you what you have to do for a specific installation. They all vary. Sorry.

Thanks for the response. I did keep the paperwork, but unfortunately it isn't too helpful in identifying how to adjust. I think I will try to drill some new holes in the strap that "cotter pins" to the trip lever. Thanks again for your time.
