Question Mildew Smell

Our laundry room has developed a mildew smell - which is odd since we're in Arizona and we get very little mold/mildew here. Have checked washer and no apparent leaks and am wondering if we could have a leaky pipe, somewhere in the wall (no water stains). ..But, where? How can you detect a leaky pipe without tearing out the drywall (or, can you?).

What you may want to try first is mixing a 1 part bleach to 3 parts water solution. Using a funnel or something where you control the direction of flow, wash down the insides of the washer drain pipe. Detergents can form a scum inside the pipe which can harbor mold and mildew. Doing this will at least let you know that one problem has been eliminated. Good luck.
