Question plumbing remodeling-what would you do different?

is there a website or book(s) that advises on how to
optimize the plumbing in your home according to
contemporary usability?

for instance, there are now in ground sprinkler systems,
jacuzzi type bathtubs, water filtration systems, better
quality on/off valves , devices to prevent banging pipes

I find myself reading this over and over. Quite the interesting way of putting it. But I can't quite follow it's meaning. If you had said you wanted to upgrade your plumbing to include all the bells and whistles...that I could have followed.

Could you share with us exactly what you want to do, and why, for each of those things you listed?

Like...what pipes bang from doing what? And does your water have sulphur in it or iron or hard minerals? And what valves do you plan to change out?...or are you planning on tearing out all the piping and starting over from scratch with Copper?

Have you considered getting a tankless/instant hot water? In the laundry... to have that built in lever control valves with drain all in one? Or, switching to gas water heater with power vent? Do you currently have frostless spigots on each side of the house? Would you like a shower that has full body jets spraying at you? How about a rock garden outside with running water fall? (*I* grew up in a house with this...Japanese rock garden)

Is there one particular item with your current plumbing where you finally said, "THAT did it!...the whole works is goin'!" ?

excellent start..... !!!!!!!!

it's a two story house; copper pipe; don't live in it yet,
and would be able to work in it while not living in it.

would like to have filtered water for drinking; "clean" water
washing machine and dish washer...not sure about the shower water.... our water is very hard here.

don't want any more pipe banging...never knew what that
was until we had a new commode put in...first time i heard it, i
thought, "uh, oh?"

instant water heat is appealing if it works to save on the
natural gas bill.

lots of plumbing shutoff valves so i can shut off different rooms
without shutting down a whole house or floor at a time.

considering a jacuzzi tub; and considering a separate shower
with a few jets in it.

considering a modest sprinkler system -- to use regular non
filtered water.

what kind of valves and or size of pipe do you recommend for
each project?

the water fall idea is inspiring.......thanks

...... you asked for details........

I think the most pressing issues are water treatment and water heating. First go get an analysis done of your water to determine the contaminents in your water, then head to the "filters and conditioners" forum for more specifics.

Second, think long and hard about your hot water needs (time, amount, frequency...) then head over to the "water heater "forum.

The rest of are smaller stand alone projects which you can address over time, which could very depending on how you address the 2 previous issues.
