Removing a garbage disposal

Greetings:

I would like to remove a garbage disposal from underneath my kitchen sink. I don't want to replace it, I just want to get it out of there--don't need it or want it. Can someone please tell me the best way to go about it and how to avoid any possible problems along the way. Many thanks to you.

squadsright, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
First, disconnect the electrical. Then disconnect the trap from the unit. Up at the top you will see a ring with tabs on it. You can stick a screwdriver into the tabs and turn counter-clockwise. This will release the disposal. Be careful as it will drop and most are heavier than they look. You will probably have to install a new strainer assembly in the sink depending on how it was done. Then you will have to redo the drop piping back to the trap assembly. Good luck.
