Cold water pressure tank for hot water heater

I have a pressure tank for my water heater. I have noticed that pipes have been banging again and the last time that a plumber came to the house he either added air to the tank or bled the tank and that took care of the banging. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

You should be able to locate a "bleed" valve on the tank toward the bottom. Turn off the water to the house, and, if possible, turn off the valves to and from the water heater. You may not have one on the hot water side, but that's ok. Hold a pan under the bleed valve and open it slowly allowing the water to evacuate. What you have is no air space at the top, and by removing some of the water at the bottom, you are naturally replenishing the air. If there is an air valve on top, you can use a bicycle pump to replace some of the air, but not too much (about 17#).
