Question PEX and Faucet Shutoff Valves

Hi,

What's the standard method for mounting under-sink faucet shut off valves on half inch PEX supply lines?

I'm fairly new to PEX, but decided to use it in my house remodel due to ease of installation, cheapness and quietness. I'm using ProPEX expansion fittings. So far so good, but the one disadvantage I've found of using flexible supply pipe seems to be, well, its flexibility. In particular, if I just stick the PEX pipe out through the sheetrock and put a ProPEX faucet stop valve on it, the arrangement feels somewhat less than secure, even if the PEX is clamped to a stud just before emerging from the wall.

Is this just how it is? Or should I be switching back to copper for the last few inches to provide a stub that can be clamped more rigidly? Any ideas welcome...

Cheers,

Sy

I've never used PEX but I think an adequately secured copper stub-out is probably the way to go.

It is the nature of PEX to be flexible, even on short runs like what you made. I usually like to transition to copper for the last elbow to fixture cut offs in remodels that I do that have existing PEX. Makes the cut off "feel" more secure. I wouldn't change anything if you already have it installed. How often do you use the cut offs? Once in 5 years?

Thanks for the answers. In fact after a bit of googling, I discovered something called a "ProPEX copper stub ell", which, if I understand its purpose correctly, is exactly designed for this job.

They do make a Pex tubing bracket for stubouts to help stiffen the tubing.
