Trap question

I have a new drain that ties into an old one. It will drain a washer and a washtub sink. Space doesn't allow for a trap to be located under the washer in a normal configuration. Would it be allowable to install a trap in a horizontal 2" drainline about three feet from the washer that would serve as a trap for both. Is there any design considerations to pay attention to or could I just install a U with a cap on the bottom for cleanout. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Check with your local inspector. Running traps do not work well, and would not usually be allowed.

NO! You can't tie two fixtures in that type of hook-up.
