Closet Flange Height

How high should the closet flange be above the finished floor so the toilet wax ring will seal properly?

I'm redoing a guest bath that the prior owner had carpeted (don't get me started). I removed the carpet (no pad) and put in vinyl flooring over a plywood subfloor. The top of the existing closet flange is now about 1/4 above the finsihed floor. Is this high enough for the wax ring on the toilet to seal properly? Or will I need one of those closet flange extenders to raise it up? The toilet is a Kohler if that helps.

Thanks.

Thanks.
