Unhappy Stopper Cylinder stuck in tub/drain please help!

The stopper cylinder attaches to the linkage with a cotter pin
unfortunately, the stopper cylinder (basket) is stuck in the drain/tub. It didn't come out when removing the tub drain kit. I've tried using a coat hanger as a hook to try to attach it and have done this for several hours to remove it but, it will not come out. Do you have any other suggestions on how to get this out?

THANKS!

The brass may have a little corrosion on it. Spray a little WD40 or Liquid Wrench in the hole, allow it to soak a while and then use an electricians fish tape to try and remove the cylinder. The tape is stiffer and has a hook built in on the end that will hook the cross member of the cylinder. If you can access the underside of the tub, then you may be able to remove the overflow pipe and remove the cylinder with a broomstick or similar prod.
