Dirty Water?

Today, the city flushed fire hydrants in my neighborhood. Afterwards, my water had an odor and a yellow tint to it.

I called the city and they said it’s normal for the water to do that after they flush the hydrants. They also instructed me to let the water run until it’s clear and insured me the water is safe to drink.

I opened all the hot water faucets first, and then the cold until the water cleared up. It didn’t take long for the water to clear up, maybe five minutes or less. I let the water run longer though just to make sure.

Does that really happen when the city flushes fire hydrants? I’ve lived in this house for 10 years and never had that happen before…….and it never happened in my last home either. To be honest, I’m afraid to drink the water even though it looks clear!
Thanks,
Phil

It's normal. When the city opens the hydrants, the high pressure release knocks loose a lot of sediment/crap that is stuck in the pipes. Follow the city's advice...
