Loud noise while toilet refills

Whenever our (only) toilet refills, there's a loud, higher-pitched sound that can be heard throughout the whole house. Before replacing the fill valve, the noise didn't start right away, and during the refilling, if you stopped it and started it again, the water would flow queitly for a few seconds but the noise would come back. We replaced the fill valve and now the noise starts right away and can't be interupted. Thanks for your help.

It's the HARD water crashing into the tank. SOFT water has a cushioning sound, like SOUNDS OF KIDS ON TIPSY TOES

I would start by changing the valve like, pleasantoleman suggested.
