PEX: One time fix, any workarounds without the tool?

I need to install one T-Joint and my house has been set up with PEX. I don't want to buy the tool for one crimp. Does anyone know of a workaround so that I don't have to spend $125 on a tool I'll literally use once?

Any ideas? Is it possible?

S'pose you could call in a plumber or heater person for $60/hour to crimp the thing for you. Isn't that something? Plumber comes in, crimps the hose, takes 30 seconds, you pay $60...

I had the same thing when I had my BMW motorcycle. Needed a special tool for damnnear all long-term maintenance (25k, 50k, etc.) and it was just cheaper to have a shop fix it.

franksids,

Here a hardware store charges $5.00 to rent a crimper for two hours or free if you buy a basket full of plumbing parts.

Perhaps someone in your area does so as well.

FWIW - I bought the tool on the internet - used it - then sold it on E-Bay for a profit.....

Use a shark bite tee. It just pushes on.

Guys, Thanks for all the advice. No luck finding a place that will rent it but I'll see if I can scoop one of those shark bite tees today. Thanks again.
