PVC to GALVANIZED PRESSURE TANK

Trying to connect PVC thread nipple to a Galvanized Pressure tank and every time I start the pump it leaks. PRessure is about 60 lbs at cutoff. IVe tried just screwing the PVC in and tried it with tape. Ive looke at the tank threads and cant see anything wrong with them, tried a couple of different pieces of threaded PVC. PVC is not crossthreaded. I am begining to think the PVC is a little to small. The thing that makes me think this is I can put a galvanized plug in the hole and NO LEAKS.

Thanks

Short Gal nipple, Gal union, PVC, NO LEAKS. I think it was a case were the PVC may have been thread to a minimum tolerance and the tank tapped to a max tolerance. Putting something in between seems to have fixed the problem.
