Can tub be moved?

Hi all,

A brief history...I want to replace my bathtub which is looking really worn as of late. It seems to be a normal size (5ft) but there is a small ledge between the tub and the wall which I would like to knock out. Now the problem is that the faucets come through this ledge and if I move the tub towards the wall (say 6") would I run in to huge problems with the drain having to be moved as well? Should I even bother?

The ledge wall part is closest to the tub, and above the ledge is 6 inches farther from the tub, right?

Why not just fill in the above part flush with the bottom part? Then the plumbing may be in the exact location for the replacement tub. If you get rid of the ledge, then where are you going to fill in the 5'-6" to get it back to 5' 0''?

Why don't you measure the tub and see if it really is 60" and not 54". Drain will not be an issue.

Good luck...
