Cannot Remove P Trap

I am trying to replace the p trap for my kitchen sink, but cannot remove the nut (I think thats what it's called) on one end of the p trap. I used a strap wrench to remove one of the nuts, and when I went to do the same at the other end, the p trap came off but the nut remained. It seems as if whoever installed it, also used some kind of sealant or glue. Does anyone have any ideas of how I may get this off, or what I have to do to replace the entire drain system? Thanks for your help.

You can either keep pulling on it and it will come off or you can remove the extension piece that goes up to the drain and replace that part too.

I thought about replacing the extension as well, however, that is also sealed. How would I go about replacing it since it is sealed. Do I have to saw it off? How would I then seal the new extension?

The ptrap should slide off the extension from the sink once you free up the other end. Cut the ptrap in the middle and remove it. You will be replacing it anyway. Make sure you are turning the nut in the correct direction. Sometimes when we work under sinks, our brains don't do the turn around with, our being upside down.
