bad shower valve?

I have one of those valves in the shower thats a single valve and you turn it all the way over for hot and "blend" in the cold water. two problems:

1) it leaks (when shut off the faucet drips)

2) when all the way on hot the water coming out of the shower head isnt very hot at all.

it has the same piping running to the sink and its very hot coming out of there & also the water pipe going to the shower valve is very hot as well.

the system isnt that old but the house sat vacant for about a year so im wondering if there may be some type of plug in the hot side of the valve.

I would like some instruction on repairing this type of valve or advice if you think it may not be the problem.

sorry for the long post.

You have to figure out the make & model of the mixer. Then you can go to the mfg's website & get the installation manual, which should have a parts breakdown & show you how to adjust the hot temp. As for the leak, it may need a new cartridge or other repair parts. If it's a Moen, they'll send you a cartridge for free.
