Shower Vent

I currently have a shower pan with a 2" s-trap with no vent. Is it OK not to have a vent for a shower drain?

Every drain should normally be vented. How do you know this one isn't. Also, might be wet-vented

Unless this shower was "butched in" it is extremely unlikely that the drain is not vented. How far is the run from the trap to the main drain and does it have a vent stack above the main drain at the point the shower drain enters?

It was "butched in" by the previous owner.
