How to adjust tub drain lever?

I noticed that the bathtub that the kids use is not holding water. I can hear it leaking into the drain. My question is how do I adjust the drain lever? It's the standard lever that you move up and down, not connected to the tub spout. It's held in place by 2 screws I removed the screws to look inside but nothing really looked obvious to me as to how to adjust it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Undo the two screws and slowly pull the cover plate off. With it, will come a linkage with a turnbuckle on it. Take up on the linage a little and reinstall it. It should allow complete closing of the plunger, now. If not, you can keep trying different settings.
