How to heat a Detached Garage
I'm looking to convert a detached 2 story garage into an apartment but it has NO plumbing or heating. The garage is roughly 60+ feet from the rear of the house. I trying to find out what the best way(most cost effective) to heat this would be: run of the existing home heating/plumbing plant thru buried piping or have a small independent furnace installed in the garage.
The house currently has a new oil fired furnece but also has metered gas service for stove& dryer.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Dave

I agree with furd, separate the systems. Not sure where you are located or how much you plan on heating and cooling, but you may get by with an in the wall heat pump. It provides both hot and cool air, and can have an option of heat strips for really cold times. Not recommended for extremely cold climates.
