Question run dryer & water heater off 1/2" pipe?

I am moving my dyrer. It's new location is 20 feet from the old location but right next to the water heater in the basement. The water heater is fed from 1/2" black pipe. I was hoping to just add a 'T' fitting after the ball valve on the 1/2" black pipe to supply the dryer. Would this work?

Working? Yes, but that is what most of us do during the day, so we have to wait until evening to answer. If your dryer was hooked up to the pipe originally, you will not be using any more volume and adding pipe won't make any difference in the delivery of gas.

probably yes but it kind of depends on the set-up. can you see the gas piping in the basement? how much 1/2" pipe is there between the water heater and a larger, 3/4" pipe? if the run is too long, you may have starvation problems and have to up the pipe size. what size water heater do you have?

The "is this thing working" comment wan not out of haste. When I looked at the post there was nothing there after I posted it.

Anyway, I would rather not add to the origional pipe as I am framing out that wall and would like to take it back to the 1" main rather than have it buried inside the wall.

All the pipe is exposed. The 1/2" pipe feeding the 40 gal. hot water heater is less than a foot from the 1" it is fed from.

Being that close to your 1" run you will be even better off than the 20 foot run you originally had, and could remove all the ugly, if I understand what you have correctly. Good luck with the install and let us know if we can help further.
