Where best to put the pump?

I have an older steel 24"round 24"deep basin for a basement bathroom. I am replacing an older pump with a new submersible Little Giant sewage ejector pump. Should I set the pump right down on the bottom of the metal basin OR would it be better to put a flagstone or bricks on the bottom and the pump on top of that. The bottom is a bit rusted but flat and reasonably clean. Any suggestions?

It is always best to put a layer of stone in the bottom of the vessel and draw from that.
