sewer repair

What are the best brand no-hub couplings? I'm having to patch a small section of my main line(at the joint) where roots got in. Will roots be able to work their way inside the nohubs?

I'd say there is a possibility. Tree roots can be as fine as human hair. They can search out water as if the tree has a brain.

I presume you have busted out part of the line and are going to use one of those drive in hub connectors? If this is the case, if I were you, I'd go beyond the hub (if you have one there) and cut through the pipe where it is just pipe shaped and use a Fernco rubber sleeve and stainless steel clamp coupler. Cities make such joinery. I watched one at work recently down about 12 feet below street level when they laid all new sewer, water service, curb-sidewalk-pavement. They were using these couplers down there.
