Thumping pipes & pulsing water

Just bought a 25 year-old house that is on a well water supply. When I turn on my kitchen faucet (cold or hot) the pipes will thump and the water will pulse. Sometimes there is no water at all for just a few seconds when I turn them on. This is the only faucet that does this. My 2 full bathroom's fixtures (sink/tub/shower) work fine. A friend suggested that it may be the faucet assembly that is the culprit. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any help offered!

Kitchen faucet

I assume that it is a two handle faucet?, if so it could be a loose or defective washer, you have to pull both stems out and check, luck.
