How to find waste pipe

I want to put in a new bathroom in the basement. Older house with no rough in and the waste pipe is in the center of the house going down through 4" of concrete.

I want to place the new toilet about 20 feet from the waste pipe.

Is there any way to tell which way the waste pipe runs from the center of the basement without busting up the concrete around it?

How about running a metal snake through the clean out and using a metal detector to find the snake if there is no rebar in the concrete. Hope someone knows a few tricks or it's jack hammer time for me. lol

Thanks,

the sure-fire way is to run a video camera down the line. the camera can be located and you can trace the entire line out. most locators can also give you depth readings.

Usually old homes have a final cleanout in the floor closest to the wall as it exits the house to go out to street sewer line. Then you will have at least an approx. idea of the line between the two.
