gooseneck required on washing machine?

I have a clothes washer on a concrete pad. The discharge pipe goes through the concrete and hooks up to the sewer line. I get a bad smell like hydrogen sulfide coming from this area of the house periodically. I believe that there is no concrete, only dirt up against the drain pipe where is goes through the pad which could allow smells to come in from the ground but I also do not know that there is a gooseneck under the concrete pad. If not should I install one and can it be above the concrete or under it? Anything special I would need to know about the type of gooseneck that is required?

Welcome to the forums!

Gooseneck?? Do you mean a P trap?

It is doubtfull there is a P trap in the slab and there should be one on the washer drain.

For the cost for sure just put a P trap on it near the floor. Dont fix the washer pipe to it just hang it in it open
