I am in the process of buying a home, first time home buyer. I had the home inspector go through and check the home. The only problem he found was that there was no water flow to the sink, and to the dishwasher. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? I was with him during the home inspection and he did find some other things that may help explain what is going on with the kitchen sink/dishwasher. The home was winterized for two months, and this was the first time the water was turned on. All the faucets work though out the rest of the home, but there was some sediment build up on the aerator screens in the bathroom. Also when he turned the sink on, there was some brown spit up that came out but there was no water flow. Also when the dishwasher was run there was some water that entered the dishwasher but not very much. The hot water tank worked, and the inspector did get under the sink to make sure the values were open there. There was a copper pipe under the sink that showed some corrosion. The home is ten years old, so the pipes are still very new. It has hard city water. Any suggestions or recommendation about this would be very appreciated. I have little to know experience with plumbing, but I am very capable.

I have been having an ongoing drain problem, mostly from roots of a tree that is larger than my house that stands between my house and the sewer in the R.O.W.. I have had the plumbers out in the past couple of years that have roto rootered it out and I have done the chemicals, but i know it needs to be replaced and we got two quotes for realtively the same amount about $5k. The issue is one contractor just planned on excavating directly the path of the existing 6" clay tile and replacing with PVC, the problem with that it will probably kill the tree which is not acceptable. The other contractor suggested that they would go to the end of the property line and then into the street, the problem is that my house is at the end(or start) of the sewer line and the manhole for the start of this run is directly in front of the tree so the run would need to go through the street to this manhole. My front of my house only sits about 30 feet from the street, and I was wondering if I could just thread 4" PVC throguh the existing 6" clay drain from basement, thus no excavting is needed? The amount of wast I have is very min. as it is a one bathroom house. Also, I need to do it now as we are constantly having water come up through the floor drain when we do laundry and this is chicagoland and the dead of winter and no thaw in the near future. Is this an acceptable alternative and would a Licensed Plumber do this type of work or would i have to do it?
