Shower Faucet Leak

Hi! Iím new to the forums and am hoping that somebody will verify what I think is the root of my plumbing leak or point out another culprit.

The leak is from my shower.
1) The assembly is a compression type.
2) Colder water side (if this matters)
3) Doesnít leak from the shower head but leaks somewhere in the assembly within the wall.
4) Does not leak when the water is shut off. Only leaks when the water is on.

I am guessing that it is a faulty valve stem assembly. I would hate to replace the assembly and end up with worse problems like a bad leak when the shower water is shut off. I guess I am intimidated by plumbing problems. Seems like when I fix one problem, I cause 2 more.

leaking cold stem

sounds like you have a stem leaking behind the trim . simple packing problem, then again with out seeing the valve body can't really sure.
