Leaking shower valve assembly

What I thought was going to be an hour job turned out well....still unfinished. I have a dual faucet shower and the hot side valve seat needs to be replaced because it won't stop dripping from shower head. I took of the handle, and then a took off the first nut almost like a compresion fitting. Shouldn't the valve stem pull out or unscrew? Is it common for some brands to make this valve assembly all one piece?
Unfortunatly i do not know the brand. Now it leaks from the valve stem and showerhead. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Beacher1

You will probably have to get a plumber's socket set and use the 31/64ths or 15/16ths socket and, after you remove the escutcheon undo the large nut just behind the wall in order to get the entire valve stem out. You may want to post a couple of pictures on a site such as photobucket.com and copy/paste the HTML code in your reply post so we can see what you see.
