I have an upstairs shower which has started leaking. I removed the cieling below it and see moisture around the drain. My thought is that it is leaking around the grout line between the floor and walls and flowing along the shower pan until it reaches the drain hole in the subfloor. How does the shower pan and the drain come together? Is there any way to determine the exact point where the leak is?

there is no way to know for sure where the
leak is,if you have an older home the
shower pan is probobly made of lead.
before you tear the shower apart just
regrout any areas that look like good
places for water to seep thru, alot of times
this will be effective instead of replacing
the pan.if its a new home the pvc shower pan
was more than likley installed incorrect.
a shower drain has 4 small weep holes that
catch any water that may slip past the
grout seal and direct it down the drain,
thats what it is designed to do.if the
pvc pan material was not installed under
the lip of the drain, water will spill
into your ceiling.
good luck
Robert..
