Need to locate bathtub faucet shutoff valve

I have a leaking cold water handle in my tub.
I want to try to repair it myself. I am having trouble trying to locate the water shutoff valve to the tub. I have looked under the sink.... tried to find a spot where they might have left an opening on the other side of the wall... no luck.
I do not have a basement.
Anyone have any ideas???
