Question

When I turn the cold water on, I can turn approximately 1/2 turn before water comes out and when it does it comes out too strongly. We replaced everything not over 6 months ago. What could be wrong?

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR PRV,CHECK THE HOUSE PRESSURE
AT THE WATER HEATER,SHOULD NOT EXCEED 80 PSI.
IF IT DOES REPLACE THE PRV

Cool

If this problem is only on one faucet and not all the cold faucets, you might only need to change the washer on the end of the faucet stem. When you take the stem out of the faucet or shower body it should be flat,if it is loose or somewhat mushroom looking replace it,that may have been the cause of the problem.Good luck

Question

Dave, this sounds like my problem in the guest bathtub. Started with drip, getting worse. And I believe in trying the simple things first. But, I've never tried anything like this before, my husband passed away last year, I've got all his tools and I'm not stupid. It looks to be like a problem taken care of in the past by simple washer replacment (wish I'd paid more attention!) That said, do I need to turn off a water supply before I start this?, because I've looked and can't see a cut-off valve for the tub facets (only see them for sink facets).
Thanks!

Chris, yes, you need to shut off the water to the house before you start this repair. Also, once you have the valve stem out to replace the waher, replace the seat too. (That's what the washer closes against.) You will need a seat wrench to remove it (virtually all of them are threaded in), then take it to your local plumbing supply or home center to get the exact replacement seat and washer. Hope this helps.

Chris,
While you have everything apart you might as well replace the stems also, and yes shut the water main off befor taking stems out.Good luck
