Unhappy

i believe the pipes connecting to my washing machine are leaking. the water is dripping on the outside of my house. the valve to turn the water on and off is very loose. it seems as though it doesn't completely turn on or off it just spins. could this be why i am having this leak? if not i would like to know how to repair a leaky pipe without replacing the whole pipe line. can i just patch up the hole when i find it?
thanking you in advance for your response.

Cool

Sounds like you just need to replace one or both valves. The one on left is for hot water, the one on right is for cold. Should be just standard washing machine hose bibs. If they are screwed onto a pipe fitting, they are easier to change. Turn off water. Remove old valves counter clockwise, if threaded. Make 2-3 clockwise wraps of teflon tape on threads, tighten on bibs. Inspect your hoses for cracks, etc. and replace those if they are old. Reattach washer hoses (make sure that rubber washer screens are clean and unclogged). If they are sweated on, you'll need to sweat (or get someone else to do it)a threaded fitting on the end of the pipes. Let us know what you find, and come back for help, if you need it. Good Luck!
