Question

When replacing a faucet washer I need to know how tight to make the brass screw. Should it be tight enough to compress the washer or just tight enough to be snug. Also, how much plumbers heatproof grease should I put on the washers? I replaced my washers about four months ago and they started leaking again. When I looked at the washers one of them was completely gone. What could have happened to it?

Snug the brass screw down tight enough so it won't back out on its own. If your washers only last 4 months, you probably need to replace the seats in the faucet. Unscrew with a seat wrench and take the old seat to the store with you to get an exact replacement.
