If you want the drain pan to drain into the drain system of the house, you really want to run it through a trap. Otherwise, you'll have the worst case of sewer gas go can imagine.

I have a drain pan on my upstairs washer. No drain at all. The drain pan is supposed to be there for over flows. If it over flows, which is 20 years it never has, I just drain the pan via a petcock, and small hose. No muss, no fuss, no smell, no plumbing. KISS is my motto.
Good Luck
