My Speakman shower faucet leaked so I replaced the seat and stem. Now the faucet leaks from around the stem. It's an old Speakman faucet and consequently the old stem and packing were badly damaged. Therefore I have no idea how to correctly repack the stem and any attempts have been unsuccessful.

Either add some more packing string found at homecenters or it may be a stem with an o-ring, if this fails then you can always replace the entire stem.
