When I attempted to shut off water supply to the house for bathroom remodeling, the handle continuously and freely turned without any result. Since the shut-off valve doesn't work, we're stuck, and the plumber says he can't make it out here until June 14th! Is there any easy way for me to repair this or get around the problem in the meantime? Thanks!

If you are on city water, turn the water off at teh meter, or have the city water dept. do it. If you are on a well, shut the water off at the well. Either way, once you get the water shut off, replace the main shut off valve, then do what you originally set out to do. Hope this helps.

Cool

Just go out to your water meter, and turn off the water there. There should be a brass valve that has a flat 1" or so turn-knob on it. Good Luck!
