Clanging Pipe Mystery
#1

This problem just began, I have lived here 3 years never heard the pipe clang. In the master bathroom I notice when I flush the toilet I can hear some water sound also in the shower stall drain. I then took a plunger to the shower drain and it sounds like there is standing water in the drain. I ran some liquid plummer down it but still can hear the standing water in the drain.
In conjunction to this I heard all day long at different intervals a clanging in the pipe that sounds like it runs under the master bath floor. Is this possibly just air in the pipe or something else. Its wierd because the water is not backing up at all.
Thanks!!

Sounds like you might have loose pipes under the bathrrom arae, what happens is pipes will expand and contract when there used, the water you see in the shower drain is the water in the trap, there will always be water in the trap, so don't worry about the shower drain.

I am having the same problem as well. When the water runs, the pipes clang like a machine gun. It's not your drain, it's your pipes. Yes, it is air in the pipes that is trapped inside. Once the water begins flowing through the pipe, it leaves the air pocker nowhere to go. So the air begins to vibrate back and forth more and more as the water pressure heightens to the point that it bangs the pipes. Yes, a little bit of air in the pipes can actually make that much noise.
One of the repliers said they think it sounds like a loose pipe(s), but no matter how tight you have the pipes, it will still shake the pipes in this form.
My only question is (as well as yours), How do you solve this problem. I have no idea, so i'm looking around for a solution as well.
Help this helped you know the exact problem.

Install water hammer restorators it the fixtures that cause this noise.

Drumsticks - oh my gosh I have to say you gave me such a laugh with "the pipes clang like a machine gun" - very well put!
It has been continuing all day today as well, and I have noticed it has been clanging in other areas of the house and its not just when water is run or the toilet is flushed, so would it still be air in the pipe?
This has been interesting to explain to my landlord!!
