I have a tank from 1956, on which any new flapper will not fit. I threw away the old flapper that broke, but the seat has the ears opposite the metal stand pipe. Also, the ears are too close to the seat to accommodate the flappers on the market. I refuse to believe there is not a flapper to fit this thing, even tho my man at the faucet store cant help but suggest a new kit. Any help?

You will probably have to replace it whole flush valve if you can't get the right flapper for this.
