bathroom sink drain stopper removal

I want to check/clean the drain stopper in a bathroom sink, as it drains very slowly. The open/close arm is attached below the sink, can it just be unscrewed from the drain plug or will I need a special tool to remove or reconnect the stopper?

There should be a nut on the back side of the popup assembly under the sink, loosen the nut up and pull the rod to the rear, then lift the plunger out.

Bathtub drain seal leaking. How do I repair it?

I replaced my bathtub/shower pipes today. I noticed now that the seal under the tub, where the drain pipe actually meats the tub itself, is now leaking. It looks as if I cannot remove the drain from the tub to replace the seal, but I know there is a way. I have dis-connected it from the main drain, but not the tub it self.
