Leaking shower

We are in a house that's 22 years old. The shower in the master bath is leaking. While someone was showering we noticed water dripping outside from the overhang onto the deck. There is also a problem with the wall and flooring right next to the shower - the wallboard seems to be almost dissolving and there's a dark spot on the flooring (about a 6 inch square spot) right where the floor meets the shower stall. I'm thinking these problems are probably related and we may have some moisture problem under the floor. Our problem is we don't know how to start and how to find the leak in the shower. And to fix the wall will we need to pull the shower stall all the way out in case the wall behind the shower enclosure is affected as well? Thanks for any help you can give us.

Is there no room on backside of the shower wall to open it up and see what is happening?
